Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

I forgot to mention that we’d been to the Grand Mosque during the week.   Its very spectacular.   We did the self guided tour – it was well worth doing.  The architecture is amazing.   But it was so so hot outside that we didn’t do look at the gardens at all, lovely and cool inside though.   After we’d returned my mosque appropriate clothing we headed off to have a look around the Emirates Palace hotel.   The cash machine dispenses gold – hysterical.   If only we had enough money to buy some.

  1. I enjoyed your story about the public realm of Abu Dhabi–have you ever read any of Wilfred Thesiger’s writing about his visits there in the early 1950s?

I did no research at all before I came. It was meant to be a quick stop over…. I’m trying to read From Rags to Riches – Mohammed A J Al Fahim to get some background while I’m here tho.
