Old Sacramento

It was a long drive to Sacramento from Big Bear.  It took the best part of 12 hours.   We did the coast road (I 101) then cut across to the I 5 to Sacramento.  It’s the capital of California, with not a lot to do.   We spent yesterday wandering around the shops – we had the car so took some of the other conference goers with us.  When we finally got back to the room it was earlier than we thought so walked down to Old Sacramento in the rain.   Walking past the jail, which is situated in the middle off the town, was an interesting experience to say the least.  I think visiting hour had just finished, and those that had been arrested earlier were waiting outside for a lift – in the clothes they were or weren’t wearing at the time of their arrest.

The houses in the surrounding area the hotel are beautiful; I think it could be social housing.

Old Town was really good, lots of interest and history.  There where a whole lot of lolly shops, and tourist gift shops.  I particularly liked the wooden side walks.
