Well we set off yesterday as planned, with our shiny new exhaust, and moored at the bottom of the first set of locks ready to do them in the morning. Not 10 minutes later we get notification that the lock that was broken in Blackburn, when we originally arrived in Wigan, was out of action again. This is a nuisance to say the least. It doesn’t look like they will get the repairs done in time for us to get to where we want to be. It’s only 8 miles further up the canal but we need to get past that lock to get to the marina we were going to put the boat in while I’m at home. It also means we are still stuck on this 12 mile stretch of canal – I’ve been here long enough now.
So do we turn around now and go back to the only other marina on this stretch of canal, it means we will be there for an extra week? Or do we faff around and head back down to Wigan? Again.
