Once Howie returned from his train journey we moved out of the basin. This time we filled with water before we got to the tunnel, in an effort to lower the profile of the boat. It did help. Howie went and found the guys who helped us go through, and they took the boat back. They got a boat ride and a 6 pack of beer, so all in all a good day for them. I walked to the start of the tunnel for photographic reasons – that’s my story and I’m sticking with it.
The cruise back to Consall Forge was uneventful. Cleared the bridge this time with no problem – the box was not back on the roof. Decided it was too hot to go any further so moored up, went to the pub and watched Andy Murray win Wimbledon.
