Yesterday the weather looked like it was going to be ok, and it was. We decided to go to the NMA – which is a bus ride away. We thought we would walk to the village to get some supplies for lunch and then catch the bus from there. As it turns out there were a couple of flaws with the plan. 1. The bus only runs every 2 hours – which gave us over an hour to wait, and 2. We didn’t know it but the bus no longer goes there except on Sundays (didn’t find out till we were going to catch the bus home). We were speaking to the store owner who said we could walk there if we wanted, so that’s what we did.
It was very moving. We spent a couple of hours walking around looking at the various memorials. In a couple more years, when the trees are matured, it will be beautiful. It’s good now, just a bit new-ish. If you are going – ignore the part of the brochure that says there is good public transport links – unless it’s a Sunday.
We headed back on a different path to the way we arrived and went through Alweras, onto the canal and back home. when our travels bring us back we will spend a lot more time looking around the village A round trip of almost 10 miles.
